The HornArtist Blog exists because I gave a mouse a cookie. At a gig shortly after I moved to Los Angeles, someone asked me for a business card. I didn’t have any, but decided I’d better get some. I realized that if I was going to have business cards printed, I ought to have an appropriate email address to put on them. All the email addresses I wanted were taken, so I bought a domain (HornArtist.com) in order to have total freedom in choosing an email address.
Eventually I decided that as long as I had my own domain, I might as well build a website to promote myself as a French horn player. I built my site, played with it for a while until I was satisfied with its look and feel, and figured I was done. That was when the emails started coming.
I included an email contact form at HornArtist.com thinking that maybe I’d get some gigs that way. Instead, I started receiving occasional emails from young horn players who wanted advice. While responding, I realized that other players might benefit from having access to the same information, and as long as I was making the effort to reply, I might as well make it available to everyone.
So, here we are. I won’t make any promises about posting regularly or frequently, but whenever I get one of those emails seeking advice, learn something I wish I’d known sooner, or find something I think is really cool or funny, I’ll post about it. And if you have a questions, feel free to comment on my posts or email me using this form. Even if I don’t know the answer, I probably know someone who does.
Best regards,
Jonathan Johnson
